PS5: the game crashes, freezes or won't update

BeamNG.drive on PS5 crashes to the home screen, shows a CE- error code, freezes, loads forever or won't update? Steps to fix it and what to send us.

Go through the steps in order. After each step, start the game and check whether the problem is gone.

The game crashes, freezes or shows an error code

If the PS5 shows an error code (for example CE-108255-1), write it down. If the PS5 offers to send a crash report, please send it.

Step 1. Check Known Issues

Open the Known Issues page. If your problem is listed there, follow the workaround or wait for a fix.

Step 2. Update the game and the PS5

  • Game: on the home screen, select BeamNG.drive, press the Options button and select Check for Update.
  • PS5: Settings → System → System Software → System Software Update and Settings → Update System Software.

Step 3. Restart the PS5 completely

Rest mode doesn’t clear everything. Turn the PS5 off completely (not rest mode), wait until the power light is off, then turn it on again.

Step 4. Check the storage space and temperature

  • Check the free space in Settings → Storage. If the storage is almost full, delete some games or media you don’t need.
  • Make sure the PS5 has enough space around it for air to flow and isn’t in a closed cabinet. Clean dust from the vents.

Step 5. Rebuild the database in the PS5 Safe Mode

Rebuilding the database fixes broken system data. It doesn’t delete your games or saved data, but it can take some time.

  1. Turn off the PS5 completely.
  2. Press and hold the power button. Release it after the second beep (about 7 seconds).
  3. Connect the controller with a USB cable and press the PS button.
  4. Select Rebuild Database.

Step 6. Reinstall the game

As a last step, delete BeamNG.drive and install it again from your Game Library. Your saved data is kept separately, but don’t delete saved data if the PS5 asks you about it.

The game won’t download or the update is stuck

  1. Check the connection: Settings → Network → Connection Status → Test Internet Connection.
  2. Check whether PlayStation Network works: PSN Service Status.
  3. Open Downloads/Uploads from the control center, pause the download and resume it.
  4. If possible, connect the PS5 to the router with a network cable instead of Wi‑Fi.
  5. Check that there is enough free space in Settings → Storage.
  6. Restart the PS5 completely and try again.

My progress is missing

  • Progress from the PC version can’t be transferred to PS5.
  • Make sure you are signed in to the same PS5 user account as before.
