PS5: controllers and steering wheels
DualSense controller not responding, or steering wheel or pedals not detected on PS5? Which wheels work on PS5 and how to connect, reset and update them.Which steering wheels work on PS5?
Steering wheels work in BeamNG.drive on PS5 if the wheel is compatible with PS5. Look for “PS5” on the box of the wheel or in the list of supported platforms on the manufacturer’s website.
A wheel that works on PC is not automatically compatible with PS5. Wheels made only for PC or Xbox won’t work.
The articles in the PC → Steering wheels and controllers section are written for PC and describe settings that don’t exist on PS5.
The steering wheel or pedals are not detected
- Check that the wheel is compatible with PS5 (see above).
- If the wheel has a mode switch (PS5 / PS4 / PC), set it to PS5 (or to the PlayStation mode described in the wheel’s manual).
- Connect the wheel’s power supply first, then connect the wheel to the PS5 with USB.
- Connect the wheel directly to a USB port on the PS5, not to a USB hub.
- Connect the pedals (and shifter, if any) to the wheel base, not to the PS5, unless the manual says otherwise.
- Don’t touch the wheel while it calibrates after turning on (it turns left and right by itself).
- Start BeamNG.drive after the wheel has finished calibrating. If the game was already running, close it completely and start it again.
- Update the firmware of the wheel. Most manufacturers provide a firmware tool for PC on their website.
The wheel works, but feels wrong
- Check the settings on the wheel itself (rotation angle, force feedback strength), if your wheel has them. See the wheel’s manual.
- Check the controls settings in the game options.
- Update the wheel firmware.
The DualSense controller doesn’t work or disconnects
- Charge the controller: connect it to the PS5 with a USB cable for a while.
- Connect the controller with the USB cable that came with the PS5 and press the PS button. Some cables can only charge and don’t transfer data.
- Reset the controller: turn off the PS5, find the small hole on the back of the controller near the L2 button, and press the button inside it with a thin object for about 5 seconds. Then connect the controller with USB and press the PS button.
- Update the controller: Settings → Accessories → Controllers → Wireless Controller Device Software.
- Keep the controller close to the PS5 and away from other wireless devices.
Still not working?

- the exact model of the wheel, pedals and shifter;
- how it is connected (cable, port, mode switch position);
- whether it works in other PS5 games.
If the controller doesn’t work anywhere on the PS5, please contact PlayStation Support. For a wheel, contact its manufacturer.
